Too Damn Hard

You Work Too Damn Hard To Be Paid What You're Worth

Operating a service business can feel like a crapshoot.

You spend hours of your time developing free proposals for potential clients, only for them to tell you you’re too expensive.

You put yourself on other peoples’ schedules and drive back and forth across the state making housecalls for little projects that the owner wants performed for next to nothing.

Cashflow is slow and unpredictable. You bankroll your clients’ projects just so you have somewhere to work for free.

Clients haggle with you like your pricing is a suggestion, rather than a statement of fact.

Local service companies have always been made to justify their business models.

You’re busting your ass out there, paying employees, insurance, taxes, and all other sorts of costs, and people want to know how you cooked up your price, like it’s a random number you pulled out of the sky.

The truth is, you know your numbers cold.

And you know that it’s never enough.

Costs add up, employees only become more expensive, and insurance will get their jack up their number whether or not you had a single claim.

All of this comes before you even think about paying yourself. And the sad reality is that 99% of service business operators will not recoup a salary worthy of the sheer amount of blood, sweat, and tears they’ve invested.

That’s the truth.

You work too damn hard to be paid what you’re worth.

You’re the single linchpin keeping your business together.

You know what each of your clients want and how to get it done for them, but you don’t have the time or resources to keep all of them happy.

You stretch yourself thinner and thinner, all in the hopes that they might notice and pay you what you’re worth.

You and I both know they never could.

I know this feeling very well.

My name is Ross and I’m a contractor. I give people prices to do construction work on their homes and businesses. I can’t remember a single client who didn’t balk at the first price they got.

It becomes our job as service business operators to sell the client by helping them understand the value of the product, their need for it, and your expertise to implement it.

I’ve worked for years to develop sales and marketing systems and strategies to get more revenue in return for the time and effort that me and my crew put in on our jobs.

This newsletter/podcast is a resource for owners and operators of local service businesses who feel like they’re not getting their effort’s worth in

If you’ve ever felt guilty for charging enough to cover your costs, this is for you.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re spinning your wheels, this is for you.

If you’ve ever wondered what the hell you’re doing wrong, this is for you.
